This is really just a quick post to let my followers, you guys, know that I’m going to have to take a few days out of this exciting challenge.
Just today I have received some news that a very important person in my life has only a few hours to live. Obviously this is personal for me and I don’t want to go into a lot of detail, but to focus on this blog has just been too hard.
Let it be known I am STILL listening to a new album each day, and I plan to do so until you see this blog updated again. I just ask for your patience and understanding in what is an overwhelmingly tough time for me.
Thank you, each and every one of you.
Liam X
Who?
Plan B. Him you hear on Radio 1 every morning on the way to University. Or is that just me?
What?
The rappers new album ‘The Defamation Of Strickland Banks’.
Where?
In my home.
What did I think of it?
Well I wasn’t overly impressed with the single but it has grown on me, so I thought to myself “why not?”. I must admit, I found most of the record really underwhelming. Nothing awful, an fact, the music is good, but I just couldn’t really sustain any sort of interest in it. This may be because I have not slept in 2 days, but either way, Liam is not a happy boy.
I should probably check this out again tomorrow. It deserves that much.
Who?
Khoma, a great band, as I discovered today!
What?
The Second Wave.
Where?
In university. Stressing.
What did I think of it?
It was really good, but stressing out doing university coursework? With this depressing music? I NEED INSPIRATION GODDAMNIT! This did NOT do the trick. Sigh….
Who?
No other than one of the most important bands in the history of punk/hardcore, Refused!
What?
The bands last EP before they called it quits, ‘The New Noise Theory’.
Where?
At my girlfriends home, in her bed. YAS!
What did I think of it?
After a mentally busy day at uni, and not getting access to new music until about 10pm, I wanted something quite light. This awesome EP done the trick. Refused really are one of the best bands to have graced this ugly planet, and the impact they have had on the punk genre is clear to see. I absolutely loved ‘Blind Date’, it is fucking amazing, quite simply.
I really do think this band would have a massive place in the genre if they came back for a second bout of chaos. I really hope they do. If punk rock needs an injection of something, Refused are most certainly that drug.
Who?
One of my favourite indie bands, We Are Scientists.
What?
The bands live acoustic album, ‘Live From Union Chapel’.
Where?
In my bedroom after waking up from an EPIC nap.
What did I think of it?
Well, I love We Are Scientists, and this live album seriously did not disappoint. Why? Because the bands humour shown through the whole damn listen. It was absolutely brilliant, from stopping half way through ‘Nobody Moves, Nobody Gets Hurt’ to poke fun at U2, all the way to the silly jokes they share with each other at the end of each song. It’s never boring. It’s honest, and doesn’t filter anything out, making it raw. It’s just a brilliant acoustic album that encapsulates what this bands live show is about, and how good musicians they are.
I seriously cannot wait to see this band at T In The Park.
Who?
Calvin Harris once again.
What?
‘I Created Disco’. He in fact, did not create disco. He’s a lying knob.
Where?
My HOME!
What did I think of it?
If you can just squint your eyes to the post below this, read it out loud, and then you have my review. Same opinion really. Some enjoyable songs, some like watching paint dry, and others are just average. Meh. Totally underwhelmed to be honest.
Who?
Calvin Harris. That Scottish bloke who is quite popular these days.
What?
His second album called ‘Ready For The Weekend’.
Where?
In my home, walking to a bus, and on a bus. All through Spotify on my mobile.
What did I think of it?
Well, I think his singles are rubbish. Just to get that out of the way. Listening with headphones in I expected them to have some depth but they didn’t. They were just flat. Flat as fuck, actually. Good job it’s not only the singles this record has to offer. I enjoyed the opening track and their are a few songs here and there that have some quality sprinkled over them. All in all, it’s a decent album but to put it quite simply, I wouldn’t be buying this CD anytime in the near future. Even more so, I don’t think I’ll sacrifice watching Muse at T In The Park for his set. Decisions, decisions…
Who?
This new band that everyone and their dog is talking about. Mumford & Sons.
What?
The bands album called ‘Sigh No More’. Sigh…
Where?
In me room, via Spotify.
What did I think of it?
I had already made my mind up what I thought of this band after hearing their singles, but at the pub yesterday, a friend of mine (Ian Hardie) managed to talk me in to checking this album out. Did my opinion change?
Did it fuck. Sorry Ian, but this is really ridiculously boring music that I just can’t get into. It’s depressingly boring. I can’t listen to it without sitting in front of my PC and staring into the screen, as though my speakers are sucking my soul out of me. I’m sure I’m going to get a good beating for this but maybe it will make me feel human again.
Away to the pub so take this quick snippet. I listened to a Dillinger Escape Plan EP. It was awesome.
Bye.
Who?
The fucking awesome The Ocean.
What?
The bands new album. One of two to be released this year. Yes!
Where?
On me iPod.
What did I think of it?
I’m in a pub while I post this so I’ll keep it brief. FUCKING AWESOME!
P.S. It appears my cunt of a Tumblr posted this to the WRONG BLOG. Sorry, rest be assured, it was on time. Phew…
